Volt is 2011 Motor Trend Car of the Year®
The new 2011 Chevrolet Volt has been named the 2011 Motor Trend Car of the Year.® The annual award is one of the most prestigious honors bestowed in the auto industry.
The 2011 Chevrolet Volt is powered by electricity without being tethered to electrical outlets. It drives gas- and emissions-free for most commutes1 for about $1.50 of electricity per day. If you need to go farther, the gas-powered onboard generator can take you wherever you want to go.
The Volt battery has gone through numerous environment-specific tests, including corrosion and hot- and cold-weather testing, and the results were so promising that the 16 kWh lithium-ion battery pack is backed by a 100,000-mile/8-year warranty.2 All you have to do is plug it in to charge the battery. Your Volt will be fully charged in about 10 hours, depending on climate, using a standard 120-volt line or in as little as four hours using a dedicated 240-volt line.
Volt's dashboard has two LCD screens that display speed, battery power and range left before recharging or refueling, as well as an efficiency gauge that gives you real-time feedback.
Because Volt — which carries four adults comfortably — doesn't have a traditional transmission, the experience of driving one feels even better as you accelerate. Chevrolet calls this "instant torque," and it makes Volt a fun-to-drive car with instant acceleration.
Remote start, door lock/unlock and charge port door control are all standard features on Volt. And the hatchback design provides surprising flexibility for larger cargo.
