Silverado HD: Chevy's New Workhorse
When you need the most, you need the new 2011 Silverado HD, the most powerful heavy-duty Chevy ever built.
Its all new chassis features a high-strength, fully boxed steel frame that offers up to 6,635 lbs.1 of payload with a gas engine, and up to 21,700 lbs.2 of towing capability with the available Duramax® 6.6L Turbo-Diesel engine and Allison® transmission. The maximum payload capacity was increased by 26 percent. The conventional towing was increased to 17,000 lbs.3 And the new Silverado HD offers up to a 6,000-lb. front Gross Axle Weight Rating.
Plus, the new Diesel Exhaust Brake System works with the Allison transmission's Tow/Haul mode and Automatic Grade Braking feature, reducing the amount of conventional braking needed while towing or traveling downhill. That means reduced brake fade, prolonged brake life and more confidence when you're pulling more than 21,000 lbs.3
Check out the recent Chevy vs. Ford Rumble in the Rockies results, covered by PickupTruck.com and Diesel Power magazine, featuring a 2011 Silverado 3500HD 4WD Crew Cab LT and a 2011 Ford Super Duty F350 4x4 Crew Cab XLT. It began on I-70 at the base of the Rockies. The trucks had to climb 8,800 ft. to 11,000 ft. over 7.6 miles while towing a 19,000-lb. trailer. The test gauged who got to the top first, who gained speed the quickest and how power was put to the ground. The 2011 Silverado 3500HD 4WD Crew Cab LT made the climb two minutes quicker than the 2011 Ford Super Duty F350 4x4 Crew Cab XLT. Testing their exhaust brakes on the descent — a steep 7% grade — keeping the trucks between 52 and 60 mph, the Ford Super Duty used 10 brake applications while the Silverado HD used one brake application.
